SUNSET SPORTS
Do not expect much on this page. It has been many years since Sunset High School was a sports power in the state of Texas. The football team advanced to bi-district playoff a few years ago and was quickly eliminated. Part of the problem is that schools are placed in athletic districts according to enrollment. Sunset, with over 2,000 students, is in District 11-Class 5A, which has some perenial football powerhouses. This year there are six schools in District 11-5A and Sunset is picked to finish sixth. You can read the rankings and the schedule below.
Sunset's 2007 football schedule:

(09-02-07) While Sunset High School's sports record may not have been much to brag about in recent years, long-time arch rival in Oak Cliff, W. H. Adamson, was even less so. Until recently, Adamson had a 31-game football losing streak going. Last Friday, Adamson beat Fort Worth Carter-Riverside, 36-3, in Fort Worth to end the streak. Ever optimistic, Adamson now is embarking on a streak of quarters without being scored upon. Hmmmm. We'll see.
(09-09-07) Well, Adamson's unscored on streak lasted only two more quarters as they beat Fort Worth North Side 35-7 Saturday night. But, at least they're winning.
(09-16-07) In the game against Pinkston, Sunset fumbled the opening kickoff. The game went downhill from there for the Bisons.
(9-20-07) Sunset scored in the first quarter on a 49-yard pass play and missed the extra point. In the fourth quarter the Bisons scored on an eight-yard run and made the extra point.
(10-14-07) The Bisons lost their District 11-5A opener to W. T. White. This makes them 0-1 in district play and 0-6 overall for the season.
After finally snapping their 31-game losing streak in the first week of the season, Adamson went on to win five games straight before losing this week to Kimball 41-9 in their first District 14-4A game this week. Kimball, on the other hand is on a 32-game winning streak in district play.
(10-25-07) The Bisons have a chance this week to get off the bottom in District 11-5A standings. They play Bryan Adams, which has an identical won/loss record, 0-2 in district play and 0-7 overall.
(10-26-07) Big sigh! Alas, it was not to be. Sunset now has sole possesion of last place in District 11-5A . And, things are not likely to get better soon. Molina and Carter, the last two opponents on Sunset's schedule this year are very strong teams. Carter is a perennial football powerhouse, much as Sunset was in former years. We'll root for the purple and white anyway.
(11-03-07) Molina rolled over Sunset 44 to 20 to continue their quest for a playoff spot. Carter, Sunset's next opponent, is likely to be extra tough as they saw their 33-game winning streak brought to an end by Skyline this week. Kimball also saw their 34-game winning streak brought to an end by South Oak Cliff. Both are Class 4A teams. Molina, Carter, Skyline and Sunset are 5A teams.
(11-11-07) Carter rolled over Sunset as expected since Carter is a perennial football powerhouse. So, the 2007 football season is over for Sunset and the state playoffs begin next weekend. Four District 11-5A teams are in the playoffs, Carter, Skyline, Molina and W.T. White. Sunset and Bryan Adams get to stay home.
The state playoff system is kind of complicated. Class 5A is divided into two divisions and each division is divided into four regions. The first playoff round determines the bi-district champions. The bi-district winners play in the next round to determine area champions. The area champions play in the next round to determine regional champions who play to determine who plays in the quarterfinals. The quarterfinalists winners play in the semi-finals and the winners there advance to the finals. As I understand it, there will be a Division I State Champion and a Division II State Champion. The state championship games will be played on December 22 and will be shown on FSN. High school football sure has gotten complicated and upscale.
